Just like deposits, withdrawals don't happen inside MetaTrader 4 — there's no withdraw button. Your money is held by your broker, so you request a withdrawal on the broker's website (its "client area" or "cabinet"). Here's the process, and what's normal versus what isn't.
How to withdraw
-
Log in to your broker's website
Withdrawals are requested in your broker's client area (cabinet), not inside MT4.
-
Open the Withdrawal section
Open the Withdrawal / Cashier section.
-
Choose the method and amount
Enter the amount. Funds usually go back to your original deposit method first (an AML rule), profit after.
-
Submit and complete any checks
Submit, and complete KYC if needed. The broker then processes the payout.
How long it takes
With a well-regulated broker, the broker's side is typically processed in 1–3 business days, then your payment method adds its own time — e-wallets are quick, cards and bank transfers can take a few days more, and weekends or holidays add delay. A delayed withdrawal usually has a legitimate cause; an indefinite one, or being asked to deposit or pay a "fee" to withdraw, does not. See withdrawal problems to tell them apart.
No legitimate, regulated broker requires a new deposit, an upfront "fee", or a "tax" to release your own money. If yours does, stop, keep your records, and report it — see forex broker red flags and how to verify regulation. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.
Choose a broker with smooth withdrawals
A well-regulated broker is transparent about its withdrawal process and times. XM is long-established and multi-regulated; compare the full list too.

Frequently asked questions
How do I withdraw money from MT4?
You request the withdrawal on your broker's website, not inside MetaTrader 4 — there's no withdraw button in the terminal. Log in to the broker's client area (cabinet), open the Withdrawal section, choose the amount, and submit. Funds usually return to your original deposit method first, and the broker processes the payout after any verification.
Why is there no withdraw button in MT4?
MetaTrader 4 is the trading platform; your money is held and moved by the broker, so deposits and withdrawals are handled on the broker's website. This is standard for every MT4 broker.
Why does my withdrawal go back to my deposit method?
It's a standard anti-money-laundering rule: brokers return funds to the source you deposited from (your card or bank) up to the amount you deposited, before paying any profit out another way. It's normal and applies industry-wide.
How long does an MT4 withdrawal take?
With a well-regulated broker the broker's side is often 1–3 business days, then your payment method adds its own time (e-wallets are fast; cards and bank transfers can take a few more days). Weekends and holidays add delay. If it stalls indefinitely or you're asked to pay to withdraw, that's a red flag.
Can I withdraw if I have open trades?
You can only withdraw your free margin — funds not tied up as margin on open positions. If most of your balance is supporting open trades, close some or reduce size first, then withdraw the freed-up funds.
Trading foreign exchange and contracts for difference (CFDs) carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Leverage can work against you as well as for you. You could lose some or all of your deposited funds; do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
